Abstract
An improved process for preparing methylchlorosilanes which comprises reacting tetramethylsilane and hydrogen chloride in the gaseous state with a solid Friedel-Crafts catalyst.

An improved process for preparing methylchlorosilanes by reacting tetramethylsilane with hydrogen chloride in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst, the improvement which comprises contacting tetramethylsilane with hydrogen chloride in a gaseous state with a solid Friedel-Crafts catalyst for from 1 to 100 seconds.
