Abstract
3-Methyl-5-(2,2,3-trimethylcyclopent-3-en-1-yl)pentan-2-ol possesses a strong, precious woody odor reminiscent of sandalwood oil and is especially valuable in fragrance compositions.

A composition consisting essentially of from less than 100% to more than 60% of 3-methyl-5-(2,2,3-trimethylcyclopent-3-en-1-yl)pentan-2-ol and a definite amount, but not more than 40%, of 6-(2,2,3-trimethylcyclopent-3-en-1-yl)hexan-3-ol.

A fragrance composition comprising an olfactorily effective amount of a composition consisting essentially of from less than 100% to more than 60% of 3-methyl-5-(2,2,3-trimethylcyclopent-3-en-1-yl)pentan-2-ol and a definite amount, but not more than 40% of 6-(2,2,3-trimethylcyclopent-3-en-1-yl)hexan-3-ol and at least one other olfactory agent.
