Abstract
2-[(O-ALKYLAROYLHYDRAZONO)PROPEN-1-YL]-5-NITROFURANS [1] ARE PREPARED BY CONDENSING 3-(5-NITRO-2-FURYL)ACRYLALDEHYDE [2] WITH AN O-ALKYLAROYL HYDRAZIDE [3]. Compounds [1] are bactericides, protozoacides and fungicides and are administrable to animals in therapeutically-acceptable compositions.

A microbicidal 2-{[o-(lower)alkylaroylhydrazone] propen-1-yl} -5-nitrofuran which is essentially non-toxic to mammals and birds upon administration thereto in microbicidally-effective doses and the aroyl of which comprises one ring, which is a 6-membered carbocyclic ring, or a mixture of such microbicidal nitrofurans.
