Abstract
Group II metal mixed salts of: (A) an oil-soluble hydrocarbyl sulfonic acid; and (B) a polyoxyalkylenated sulfuric acid are useful as rust inhibitors in lubricating oil compositions.
Claims17
A Group II metal salt of:
- A. an oil-soluble hydrocarbyl sulfonic acid;
- and
- B. a polyoxyalkylenated sulfuric acid having a molecular weight in the range of about 500 to about 5000.
A method for the preparation of salts which comprises treating from 1.0 to 2.0 mols of a salt of an oil-soluble hydrocarbyl sulfonic acid with 0.8 to 1.2 mols of a Group I metal salt of a polyoxyalkylenated sulfuric acid having a molecular weight in the range of about 500 to about 5000, and from 1.0 to 2.5 mols of an inorganic Group II metal salt.
