Abstract
2-Phenylsemicarbazides of the formula ##STR1## where R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are hydrocarbyl, X is hydrogen or halogen and X.sub.1 is halogen, alkyl or alkoxy optionally substituted by halogen, useful as herbicides, are prepared by treatment of the appropriately substituted 2-phenylsemicarbazone with an aqueous acid followed by treatment with a base and optionally further an alkylating or acylating agent.
Claims7
A method for controlling undesirable plant growth which comprises applying to the locus to be protected, in amount sufficient to exert herbicidal action, a compound of the formula ##STR10## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each independently alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms;
- X and X.sup.1 each is halogen of atomic number 9 to 35, inclusive, or an acid addition salt thereof selected from the group of hydrochloric, hydrobromic, sulfuric, phosphoric, nitric, maleic, fumaric, citric tartaric, methanesulfonic, ethanesulfonic, acetic or benzoic acids.
A method for controlling undesirable plant growth which comprises applying to the locus to be protected, in amount sufficient to exert herbicidal action, a compound having the formula ##STR11## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or an acid addition salt thereof selected from the group of hydrochloric, hydrobromic, sulfuric, phosphoric, nitric, maleic, fumaric, citric, tartaric, methanesulfonic, ethanesulfonic, acetic or benzoic acids.
