Abstract
4,4-Diphenyl-2-hydroxybutylamines are prepared by condensing amines with 1,2-epoxy-4,4-diphenylbutanes. The new compounds exist in the free base form, as acid addition salts and quaternary ammonium salts, and exhibit antiarrhythmic activity.
Claims8
A method of treating arrhythmia which comprises administering to a subject suffering from an arrhythmia and in need of treatment or to a subject suspected of developing an arrhythmia an amount effective for treating the arrhythmia of a compound of the formula ##STR2## wherein:
- X is hydrogen or fluorine;
- R.sub.1 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl;
- R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 independently are hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, or --CH.sub.2 R.sub.4, wherein R.sub.4 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.5 alkenyl;
- or R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 taken together with the adjacent nitrogen atom to which they are attached complete a heterocyclic ring selected from pyrrolidine, piperidine, morpholine, or methyl and dimethyl substituted pyrrolidine, piperidine and morpholine;
- and the non-toxic pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.
