Abstract
Disclosed are novel compounds of the formula ##STR1## WHEREIN EACH Z is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and halogen; wherein each X is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, and hydroxyl, provided that at least one X is hydroxyl; wherein Y is selected from the group comprising oxygen and sulfur; and wherein n is an integer from 1 to 3. The above compounds are effective flame retardants in polyurethane and polystyrene polymeric compositions.
Claims13
A compound of the formula:
- ##STR10## wherein each Z is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and halogen;
- wherein each X is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, and hydroxyl, provided that at least one X is hydroxyl;
- wherein Y is selected from the group consisting of oxygen and sulfur;
- and wherein n is an integer from 1 to 3.
A polymeric composition comprising a polystyrene polymer and a flame retardant amount of a compound of the formula ##STR11## wherein each Z in independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, chlorine and bromine;
- wherein each X is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, chlorine, bromine, and hydroxyl, provided that at least one X is hydroxyl;
- wherein Y is selected from the group consisting of oxygen and sulfur;
- and wherein n is an integer from 1 to 3.
A compound of the formula:
- ##STR12## wherein each Z is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and halogen;
