Abstract
An improved process for the manufacture of aluminum by reducing aluminum/oxygen compounds with carbon at high temperatures is described.
Claims8
In the process for the manufacture of aluminum alloys by reducing an oxidic aluminum-containing material at high temperature with carbon, the improvement which comprises carrying out the reduction in the presence of a catalyst metal selected from the group consisting of iron, nickel, cobalt a mixture thereof at a temperature between 1000.degree. C and 1950.degree. C.
The process of claim 8 where the oxidic aluminum-containing material is bauxite.
