Abstract
Novel amino derivatives of mercaptopyridine-1-oxide inclusive of 2-acylamino- and 2-alkoxycarbonylamino-6-mercaptopyridine-1-oxides, disulfides thereof, and metal salts thereof having particular utility as antimicrobial agents per se and in skin cleansing detergent compositions, shampoos, hair dressings, disinfectants, preservatives and the like.
Claims7
A mercaptopyridine-1-oxide compound having the following structural formula:
- ##STR10## wherein R is selected from the group consisting of the acyl radical R.sub.o C.dbd.O and the alkoxycarbonyl radical R.sub.o -OC.dbd.O, where R.sub.o is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, aryl selected from the class consisting of phenyl or naphthyl or aralkyl, said alkyl having portion 1-6 carbons or halobenzyl;
- R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are each independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, methyl, two of said terms may repreent methoxy and the other hydrogen, one of said terms may represent ethyl, n-butyl, methoxy, ethoxy, phenyl, bromophenyl, chlorophenyl, trichlorophenyl, naphthyl, chlorobenzyl, dichlorobenzyl or furyl and the other two terms represent hydrogen;
- R.sub.4 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, an alkali metal, and an alkaline earth metal.
2-acetamido-6-mercaptopyridine-1-oxide.
2-ethoxy-carbonylamino-6-mercaptopyridine-1-oxide.
