Abstract
Phenolic polymers which can be produced by reacting ortho-cresol with other phenolic materials, such as phenol, are described. Phenolic compositions comprising these phenolic polymers mixed with other phenolic materials, cellular materials produced from these phenolic polymers having low friability, and related processes and products are also described.
Claims7
An alkylol group containing phenolic polymer of Formula I:
- ##STR11## wherein:
- a. R.sup.1 is ##STR12## hydrogen or a radical of Formula II:
- ##STR13## b. the R.sup.2 's are independently selected from the group consisting of lower alkyl, phenyl, benzyl, halo, nitro and hydrogen,
- c. The R.sup.3 's are independently selected from the group consisting of ##STR14## hydrogen or a radical of Formula II, wherein at least one of the R.sup.3 's is alkylol, p1 d. the R.sup.4 's are independently selected from the group consisting of lower alkyl, hydrogen, phenyl, benzyl, or furyl,
- e. m is an integer from 2 to 10 inclusive,
- f. the phenolic polymer has a molecular weight between 200 and 2000.
