Abstract
When incorporated into formulations, polyoxyethylene alkyl ether derivatives both increase the impact resistance and the flow rate of polypropylene compositions.
Claims9
An impact and flow modified polypropylene composition comprising:
- a. a polypropylene having a flow rate, determined according to ASTM D1238 Condition L, in the range of 0.2 to 25 grams/10 minutes;
- and
- b. a polyoxyethylene alkyl ether derivative, in an amount effective to increase both impact resistance at room temperature and flow rate of said composition, selected from the group consisting of:
- i. a compound defined by a first formula:
- ##STR5## where in said first formula x, y, and z are selected from the group consisting of:
- (1) x which is in the range 3-10, y which is in the range 12-15, and z which is 1;
- and (2) x which is in the range 5-12, y which is in the range 11-13, and z which is 0;
- and
- ii. a compound defined by a second formula:
- ##STR6## where in said second formula the x and each y are individually selected from the group consisting of:
- 1. x is in the range 7-11, and y which is in the range 12-15;
- and
- 2. x which is in the range 12-14, and y which is in the range 8-11.
