Abstract
A two-dimensional array of ionization chamber x-ray detector cells comprises a plurality of planar anode assemblies disposed equi-distant between parallel cathode plates in a gas of high atomic number. Each anode assembly comprises a plurality of conductive strips disposed on a thin dielectric sheet in a direction substantially parallel to the incident x-ray energy.
Claims18
In an x-ray detector array of the type comprising a gaseous medium characterized as being substantially opaque to electromagnetic radiation at x-ray frequencies;
- a plurality of substantially planar cathodes disposed in said gaseous medium;
- a plurality of substantially planar anode assemblies disposed in said gaseous medium, each of said anode assemblies lying approximately equi-distant between two of said cathodes, and means for applying electric potential between said cathodes and said anode assemblies;
- the improvement wherein:
- each of said anode assemblies comprises a plurality of parallel conductive strips disposed on one or more surfaces of a planar dielectric sheet, the long dimension of each of said strips being oriented substantially parallel to an incident x-ray beam.
