Abstract
N-carboxymethyl-N-(hydroxybenzyl)-asparagic acids which may be further substituted in the phenyl nucleus possess metal-chelating properties for metals such as iron magnesium, calcium, manganese, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc, cadmium or related metals. Chelates of this type may be used for the regulation of metal-deficiency phenomena in plants.
Claims6
A metal chelate selected from the group consisting of iron, magnesium, calcium, manganese, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc and cadmium metals of an asparagic acid derivative of formula I ##STR6## wherein R.sub.1 represents hydrogen, hydroxy, halogen, sulpho, carboxyl C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 halogenoalkyl, di- (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl) amino, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkanoyl or phenyl,
- R.sub.2 represents hydrogen, hydroxy, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxy, and
- R.sub.3 represents hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl.
