Abstract
Pilocarpinium 2-naphthalenesulfonate, pilocarpinium 2,5-dihydroxybenzoate, pilocarpinium dihydrogenphosphate, pilocarpinium 2-chloro-4,6-disulfamoylphenoxide, and pilocarpinium 3,5-di-tert-butylsalicylate, novel compounds effective in the treatment of glaucoma.

Pilocarpinium 2,5-dihydroxybenzoate.
A topical ophthalmic composition comprising a topical ophthalmic vehicle and 1 to 15% of pilocarpinium 2,5-dihydroxybenzoate as medicament.
The composition of claim 5 wherein the water soluble solid polymer is hydroxypropyl cellulose.
The method of reducing intraocular pressure in the eye which comprises topically administering to an eye of a host having raised intraocular pressure an effective amount of pilocarpinium 2,5-dihydroxybenzoate.
