Abstract
N-carbamoyl ethyl oxanilates having the formula ##STR1## wherein X and Y are independently selected from the group consisting of chloro, bromo and trifluoromethyl; n is either zero or one; and R and R.sub.1 are independently selected from the group consisting of lower alkyl and lower alkoxy from C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 inclusive, or R and R.sub.1 taken together is selected from the group consisting of ##STR2## are prepared by a process comprising reacting a urea having the formula ##STR3## with ethyl oxalyl halide in a single step in an inert solvent.

A process for the production of N-carbamoyl ethyl oxanilates having the formula ##STR16## in which X and Y are independently selected from the group consisting of chloro, bromo and trifluoromethyl;
- n is either zero or one;
- and R and R.sub.1 are independently selected from the group consisting of lower alkyl and lower alkoxy from C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 inclusive, or R and R.sub.1 taken together is selected from the group consisting of ##STR17## comprising reacting in an inert solvent a urea having the formula ##STR18## with an ethyl oxalyl halide having the formula ##STR19## wherein Z is selected from the group consisting of chloro and bromo.
