Abstract
New tetracarbonyl compounds of the formulae: ##STR1## where R is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl radical or an aryl radical. The invention also contemplates the thermostable polymers obtained by reacting an aromatic tetra-amine with at least one of the above tetracarbonyl compounds.

A heterocyclic thermostable polymer comprising recurring units of at least one of the types represented by the general formulae ##STR11## wherein Ar is a tetravalent aromatic radical which comprises one or more aromatic rings, and the four valences of which are located, by pairs, on adjacent carbon atoms of the same ring, R is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl radical or an aryl radical, and the arrows indicate a possible isomerism.
