Apparatus for accurately proportioning and mixing fluids comprising a double acting piston/cylinder unit of which the cylinder is divided into two chambers by the piston and the volume of the cylinder swept by the piston at one end of the piston is lesser than that at the other end. An inlet connection for a first fluid is made to one chamber, a conduit connects the two chambers and includes a connection to a source of the second fluid. Valve means are associated with the conduits and are effective to cause a charge of first fluid to be delivered to said one chamber and thereafter to be transferred to the other chamber drawing fluid from said source of second fluid to make up for the difference in the volumes of the chambers. Said valve means then cooperate to cause the mixed fluids to be discharged from the other chamber as said one chamber is again charged with said first fluid. In a variant of the invention the piston/cylinder unit is replaced by a receptacle within which is disposed a diaphragm the diaphragm serving to divide the receptacle into two chambers.
Apparatus for proportioning and mixing two substantially incompressible fluids comprising an hydraulic circuit including a cylinder, a piston reciprocable in said cylinder and dividing the cylinder into two chambers, means reducing the effective volume swept by said piston in one chamber to be lesser than that swept by said piston in the other chamber, first conduit means constituting an inlet for a first fluid to said one chamber and connectable to a source of said first fluid, second conduit means connecting said one chamber to said other chamber, third conduit means connected to said other chamber and constituting an outlet for mixed fluids, fourth conduit means constituting an inlet for a second fluid and connectable between a source of a second fluid and said second conduit means to cause said second fluid to be added to said first fluid in said second conduit means in an amount directly related to the differences in effective volumes swept by said piston, and interconnected valve means cooperating in said conduit means to permit controlled reciprocation of said piston in said cylinder, said source of said second fluid being different from said source of said first fluid and said valve means constituting means isolating said source of second fluid from both said chambers as said one chamber expands and connecting said source of said first fluid to said one chamber as said one chamber expands.
Apparatus for proportioning and mixing two fluids comprising an hydraulic circuit including a cylinder, a piston reciprocable in said cylinder and dividing the cylinder into two chambers, means reducing the effective volume swept by said piston in one chamber to be lesser than that swept by said piston in the other chamber, first conduit means constituting an inlet for a first fluid to said one chamber and connectable to a source of said first fluid, second conduit means connecting said one chamber to said other chamber, third conduit means connected to said other chamber and constituting an outlet for mixed fluids, fourth conduit means constituting an inlet for a second fluid and connectable between a source of a second fluid and said circuit to cause said second fluid to be added to the circuit in an amount directly related to the difference in effective volumes swept by said pistons and interconnected valve means cooperating in said conduit means to permit controlled reciprocation of said piston in said cylinder, wherein said inlet for said second fluid communicates directly with said one chamber.
Apparatus for proportioning and mixing two liquids comprising an hydraulic circuit including a receptable, movable partition means within said receptacle dividing that receptacle into two chambers, means for producing reciprocation of said partition means within said receptacle alternately to expand and contract said chambers, a first liquid inlet to one of said chambers, conduit means connecting said one chamber and the other of said chambers, a second liquid inlet extending from a source of second liquid different than said first liquid to said conduit means and the liquid outlet from said other chamber, valve means associated with said first liquid inlet, said outlet and said conduit means and operable to permit controlled reciprocation of said partition means, and means effective to render the volume of first liquid delivered to said one chamber lesser than that volume required to fix the other chamber upon expansion of said other chamber whereby second liquid is induced into said other chamber through said conduit means in a volume equal to the difference in said aforementioned volumes, said valve means being effective to isolate said chambers from the source of second liquid as said one chamber expands and to connect said first liquid inlet to said one chamber as said one chamber expands
Liquid proportioning and mixing apparatus comprising a liquid filled system including a first receiving chamber receiving a predetermined volume of a primary liquid, a second receiving chamber, means connecting said chambers, means transporting liquid from said first chamber to said second chamber through said connecting means, inlet means for a secondary liquid communicating with said connecting means and means rendering the volume of said second chamber greater than said predetermined volume of primary liquid, whereby secondary liquid is delivered through said connecting means to fill, with said primary liquid, said second chamber.
Liquid proportioning and mixing apparatus comprising a source of a primary liquid and a filled system including a first receiving chamber receiving a predetermined volume of a primary liquid from said source, a second receiving chamber, means connecting said chambers, means transporting liquid from said first chamber to said second chamber through said connecting means, a source of secondary liquid, connecting means extending between said secondary source and said means connecting said chambers and means rendering the volume of said second chamber greater than said predetermined volume of primary liquid, whereby secondary liquid is delivered through said connecting means and said means connecting said chambers, to fill, with said primary liquid, said second chamber.
