Cyclic sulphoxides and sulphones having a physiological cooling action on the human body

In a manufactured consumer product for topical application to the human body, comprising a topically administrable carrier, and, as adjuvants in said carrier, (i) an antiseptic or perfume or both, and (ii) a compound capable of stimulating the cold receptors of the nervous system of the surface tissues of the body when brought into contact therewith by topical application of the said product, the improvement which comprises using as said cold receptor stimulating compound, an effective amount of a cold receptor stimulating sulfoxide or sulfone of the formula:

• ##STR4## where R is C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl;
• R' is C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl;
• n is 1 or 2;
• the total number of carbon atoms provided by R and all the R' groups is from 2-12 inclusive;
• and
• x is 1 or 2.
