Abstract
A color developing coating and coated paper are provided in which a paper sheet is coated with a mixture of dispersing agent, adhesive and a reactive pigment made up of essentially from the group bentonite and montmorillonite admixed with kaolinite, a polyvalent cation and a ligand.

A color developing coating composition for manifold copy paper and the like comprising a mixture of a dispersing agent, an adhesive and a reactive pigment consisting essentially of a mixture of salt of a polyvalent cation, a ligand, kaolinite and a member selected from the group consisting of bentonite and montmorillonite.
