An individual section of a multiple section glassware forming machine is shown wherein each such section preferably includes three stations performing separate and sequential operations in forming articles of glassware. Each such section may be adapted for "single gob" or "multiple gob" use whereby each station in the section performs its operation in forming either a single article of glassware or multiple articles at the same time. The section shown is adapted for "double gob" operation. Its first station is utilized in forming (by overhead pressing plungers) two parisons in upright parison molds. Its second station is utilized to further form the parisons either in intermediate blow molds or by suspending the parisons for a re-heat. Its third station is utilized to blow the parisons into the final shape of the glassware article being made. The stations are spaced along the longitudinal center line of the machine section, and a transfer mechanism is provided which includes a reciprocating carriage for supporting and moving the parisons and the finally shaped articles along, substantially horizontally, from station to station and onto a deadplate in sequence. After reaching the deadplate, the finally shaped articles are moved onto a conveyor by means of mechanism not a part of this invention.
In a glassware forming machine section comprising a frame having at least two stations horizontally spaced apart longitudinally of the frame and wherein the first of such stations is utilized to form a parison and another of said stations is utilized to further form the parison, a transfer mechanism for moving a parison from the first such station to said another station including at least one guide rod extending longitudinally of the frame over the said stations, a carriage supported on said rod for substantially horizontal reciprocation therealong, a reversible motor connected with the carriage for reciprocating the carriage on the guide rod, a neck ring structure supported by said carriage and having parts movable toward each other to engage a parison at said first station and away from each other to release a parison at said another station, rack and pinion means for so moving said neck ring parts including a rack which is connected with at least one neck ring part and which is carried by and slidable on said carriage and a pinion which is rotatable with said guide rod and slidable therealong with the carriage, and driven reversible means connected with said guide rod for rotating said guide rod.
In a glassware forming machine section comprising a frame having at least two stations horizontally spaced apart longitudinally of the frame and wherein there are at least two upright parison molds at the first of such stations in side by side relationship along the longitudinal dimension of the frame and at least two similarly arranged molds at another of said stations to further form parisons made at said first station, a pair of horizontal guide rods extending longitudinally of the frame and straddling all of said stations, a carriage supported on said rods for substantially horizontal reciprocation, a reversible motor connected with the carriage for reciprocating the carriage between a retracted and an extended position, a neck ring structure supported by the carriage and having parts movable transversely of the frame toward each other to engage and support parisons at the first station in the retracted position of the carriage and away from each other to release parisons at said another station in the extended position of the carriage, pairs of tongs supported on said carriage with the tongs in each pair being movable horizontally and longitudinally of the frame toward each other at the said another station and in the retracted position of the carriage to engage a parison and being movable away from each other in the extended position of the carriage to release such parison beyond said another station.
In a glassware forming machine section comprising a frame having at least two stations horizontally spaced apart longitudinally of the frame and wherein there is at least one upright parison mold at the first of such stations and at least one mold at another of said stations to further form a parison made at said first station, a pair of horizontal guide rods extending longitudinally of the frame and straddling all of said stations, a carriage supported on said rods for substantially horizontal reciprocation, a reversible motor connected with the carriage for reciprocating the carriage between a retracted and an extended position, a neck ring structure supported by the carriage and having parts movable transversely of the frame toward each other to engage and support a parison at the first station in the retracted position of the carriage and away from each other to release a parison at said another station in the extended position of the carriage, a pair of tongs supported on the carriage with its tong elements being movable horizontally and longitudinally of the frame toward each other at the said another station and in the retracted position of the carriage to engage a parison and being movable away from each other in the extended position of the carriage to release such parison beyond said another station.
