Abstract
Thermoplastic-thermosetting polymers having good gas barrier properties are prepared by the interpolymerization of acrylonitrile, acrolein and indene.
Claims6
A terpolymer composition resulting from the polymerization in the presence of a free-radical generating polymerization initiator of
- A. from 5 to 75% by weight of at least one nitrile having the structure ##STR3## wherein R is hydrogen, a lower alkyl group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or a halogen,
- B. from 5 to 70% by weight of a member selected from the group consisting of acrolein and methacrolein, and
- C. from 5 to 50% by weight of indene.
The process comprising polymerizing in an aqueous emulsion in the presence of a free-radical generating polymerization initiator in the substantial absence of molecular oxygen at a temperature of from about 0.degree. to 100.degree. C a mixture of
- A. from 5 to 75% by weight of at least one nitrile having the structure ##STR4## wherein R is hydrogen, a lower alkyl group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or a halogen,
- B. from 5 to 70% by weight of a member selected from the group consisting of acrolein and methacrolein, and
- C. from 5 to 50% by weight of indene.
