Abstract
Substituted acetate compounds represented by the formula ##STR1## which are useful as pesticides and pesticidal composition containing the substituted acetate compounds as active ingredients, as well as processes for preparing the compounds and the compositions are disclosed.

A compound of the formula ##STR769## wherein R.sub.1 is a member selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, methoxy, methylsulfinyl, allyl, methylthio, trifluoromethyl, nitro, methoxycarbonyl, ethoxy, methyl, chlorine, propyl, butyl, bromine, fluorine, iodine, ethyl, ethoxycarbonyl or methoxymethyl;
- R.sub.2 is a member selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, methyl, methoxy, chlorine or bromine, or R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are attached to adjacent carbon atoms and are bonded to one another to form methylenedioxy or tetramethylene;
- R.sub.3 is hydrogen or methyl;
- Z is a member selected from the group consisting of methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, isopropenyl, cyclopropylmethyl, bromoethyl, cyclohexyl, propargyl or trifluoromethyl and X is a member selected from the group consisting of:

A phenylacetate compound of the formula ##STR771## wherein R'.sub.1 represents a straight or branched chain alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, halogen or alkoxy having 1 to 4 carbon atoms;
- R'.sub.2 represents hydrogen or forms together with R'.sub.1 when said R'.sub.2 and R'.sub.1 are attached to adjacent carbon atoms, methylenedioxy;
