Abstract
A mixed acid anhydride consisting of higher fatty acid having 6 to 22 carbon atoms and sulfuric anhydride is reacted with amino acids, peptides or proteins in the presence of a base to form N-higher aliphatic acyl derivatives of amino acids, peptides or proteins respectively in good yield. The reaction mixture comprises N-acylated-amino acids, peptides or -proteins and sulfate salts and may be directly used as detergent.
Claims10
A process for preparing N-higher aliphatic acyl derivatives of amino acids, peptides or proteins which comprises the following steps:
- (1) reacting a mole of a tertiary amine salt of a fatty acid having 6 to 22 carbon atoms with 1 to 2 moles of sulfuric anhydride or complex thereof at a temperature ranging from -20.degree.C to 40.degree.C in a non-aqueous solvent to form a mixed acid anhydride of a fatty acid having 6 to 22 carbon atoms and sulfuric acid and subsequently (2) reacting the mixed acid anhydride prepared with an amino acid, peptide or protein in a liquid medium in the presence of base at temperatures between -5.degree.C and 40.degree.C until the corresponding N-acylated product is formed.
