Abstract
A process for preparing an organic isocyanate by reacting an organic nitroso compound with carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst comprised of a mixture of a noble metal and a Lewis acid.

In the process for preparing an aromatic isocyanate by reacting a carbocyclic aromatic nitroso compound with carbon monoxide at an elevated temperature and elevated pressure in the presence of a catalyst, the improvement which comprises employing as said catalyst a mixture of rhodium trichloride and cobalt iodide.
