Abstract
A flame retardant polycarbonate composition comprising in admixture an aromatic carbonate polymer and a flame retardant additive which may be the metal salts of either monomeric or polymeric phenol ester sulfonic acids, or mixtures thereof.

A flame retardant carbonate polymer composition comprising in admixture a carbonate polymer and a minor amount of a metal salt of an unsubstituted and substituted monomeric phenol ester sulfonic acid and mixtures thereof, wherein the metal salts are selected from the group consisting of the alkali metal salts and alkali earth metal salts and mixtures of these metal salts, and the substituent on the metal salts of the substituted monomeric phenol ester sulfonic acid is selected from the group consisting of an electron withdrawing radical, and mixtures of electron withdrawing radicals.
