Abstract
A process for the production of N-phosphonomethyl glycine by the oxidation of N-phosphonomethylimino diacetic acid utilizing a molecular oxygen-containing gas as the oxidant in the presence of a catalyst consisting essentially of activated carbon. The N-phosphonomethyl glycine produced is useful as a herbicide or plant growth regulant.
Claims12
A process for the production of N-phosphonomethyl glycine which comprises contacting an aqueous solution on N-phosphonomethylimino diacetic acid with a molecular oxygen-containing gas at a temperature sufficiently elevated to initiate and sustain reaction and in the presence of a catalyst consisting essentially of activated carbon.
