Abstract
Compositions comprising an effective amount of an active ingredient such as a medicinal agent, disinfectant, pesticide, insect repellant, or a cosmetic agent such as an antiperspirant, a bath oil, a fragrance, sunscreen, soap, hair dye, tanning agent, etc., in a carrier comprising a polymer comprising a monomer having hydrophilic functional groups such as hydroxyl, carboxyl, or amino groups and containing aluminum, zinc, or zirconium bound in complex form.

A composition comprising an effective amount of an active ingredient dispersed in a polymer complex consisting essentially of (1) a polymer which is a homopolymer or copolymer comprising a monomer having a hydrophilic functional group and (2) from 0.1 to 90 mol percent based on the hydrophilic functional groups present in said homopolymer or copolymer, of aluminum, zinc, or zirconium metal bound in complex form, said monomer being selected from the group consisting of hydroxyalkyl esters of .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carboxylic acids and ethylenically unsaturated monomers containing an amino group, said copolymers further comprising from 0.5 to 60 mol percent of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer free of said hydrophilic functional groups.
