Abstract
This invention relates to catalysts for use in the control of atmospheric pollution. The catalysts of the present invention are especially useful in the purification of exhaust gases from internal combustion engines and comprise oxidised ruthenium or ruthenium dioxide and a base metal oxide which forms a stable mixed metal oxide with ruthenium dioxide. The base metal may be selected from Groups IV and V of the Periodic Table.
Claims5
A catalyst consisting essentially of a mixed oxide obtained by coprecipitating ruthenium and a base metal as hydrated oxides from a solution of ruthenium salt and salt of a base metal selected from the group consisting of titanium, zirconium, hafnium, niobium and bismuth drying and calcining to form said mixed oxide.
A process for preparing the catalyst of claim 8 which comprises forming a solution of ruthenium and base metal halides, precipitating the ruthenium and base metal as hydrated oxide, drying and calcining to form a mixed oxide of the ruthenium and base metal.
