Abstract
A compound of formula ##SPC1## Is produced by reacting 4.alpha.,5.alpha.-epoxy-9,10-dioxatricyclo[4,3,1,0.sup.3,8 ]decane with ammonia or a reaction functional derivative thereof; it is an intermediate for the synthesis of prostaglandins.

The racemic 4.beta.-amino-9,10-dioxatricyclo[4,3,1,0.sup.3,8 ]decan-5.alpha.-ol of the formula VII ##SPC28##
A process for the manufacture of a racemic compound of the formula VII ##SPC29##
- wherein a racemic .alpha.-epoxide of the formula VI ##SPC30##
- is reacted with aqueous ammonia.
A process for the manufacture of an optically active compound of the formula VII having an 8S-absolute configuration ##SPC31##
- wherein an optically active .alpha.-epoxide of the formula VI having an 8S-absolute configuration ##SPC32##
- is reacted with aqueous ammonia.
