Abstract
A process for producing a steroid ether which comprises admixing an alkali, a reactant steroid having a hydroxyl group attached directly to an aromatic ring in the steroid nucleus, and a dialkyl sulfate in the presence of at least one hydrophilic solvent in which said reactant and product steroid is readily soluble, selected from the group consisting of cyclic ether and ketone.
Claims12
A process for producing estrogenic steroid ethers which comprises admixing an alkali, a reactant estrogenic steroid having a hydroxyl group attached directly to an aromatic ring of the estrogenic steroid nucleus and a dialkyl sulfate in the presence of a hydrophilic solvent selected from the group consisting essentially of dioxane, tetrahydrofuran, methyltetrahydrofuran, tetrahydropyrane, acetone, and methyl ethyl ketone, in which said reactant and product estrogenic steroid are readily soluble.
