Abstract
Polyurethanes are made fire-retardant by including in the reaction mixture aromatic polyisocyanates having halogen-containing side chains.
Claims5
A fire-retardant polyurethane resin that comprises the reaction product of a polyisocyanate component containing from about 30% to 80% by weight of a side-chain halogenated aromatic polyisocyanate selected from the group consisting of 2,4-diisocyanatobenzotrichloride, 2,6-diisocyanatobenzotrichloride, and mixtures thereof and a polyol having at least two active hydrogen atoms selected from the group consisting of polyether polyols, polyester polyols, and mixtures thereof.
