Adjusting the impedance of printed circuit board (PCB) differential signal trace pairs in an integrated circuit socket break-out region to substantially match the impedance of differential signal trace pairs in a main-route region is accomplished by increasing the thickness of the differential signal trace pairs in the break-out region. This allows maintaining the required width and spacing of the differential signal trace pairs in the x and y directions of the break-out region, and adding copper thickness in the z direction to reduce the impedance of the differential signal trace pairs to the impedance of the differential signal trace pairs in the main-route region. This impedance matching minimizes signal reflection losses, distortion and standing waves. Increasing the relative dielectric constant εr of the PCB in the break-out region may also be used to adjust the impedance of the differential signal trace pairs therein. Substitute substrate of SiP instead of PCB.
