Abstract
A cooking appliance is disclosed. The cooking appliance according to at least one an object to be heated is placed; a plurality of working coils and ferrites which heat the object to be heated; a plurality of inverters which apply current to the working coils respectively; and a processor which controls the direction of a magnetic field generated by at least two neighboring working coils among the working coils.

A cooking appliance comprising:
- a top plate on which an object to be heated is placed;
- a plurality of working coils and ferrites configured to heat the object to be heated;
- a plurality of inverters configured to apply currents to the respective working coils;
- and
- a processor configured to control directions of magnetic fields generated by at least two adjacent working coils.

A method of controlling operation of a cooking appliance, the method comprising:
- detecting a cooking vessel;
- and
- when the detected cooking vessel belongs to a second heating area that is not a first heating area formed by a plurality of working coils, transmitting a control signal such that a phase of a magnetic field generated by each of controlled working coils differs from a phase of a magnetic field generated by another adjacent working coil.
