Method and apparatus for managing a user equipment for multicast broadcast service multicast reception

A method performed by a user equipment (UE) supporting a multicast broadcast service (MBS) in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

• receiving, from a base station in a radio resource control (RRC) connected state, MBS multicast session configuration information for receiving an MBS multicast service in an RRC inactive state and multicast channel configuration information associated with a common frequency resource (CFR) for receiving the MBS multicast service in the RRC inactive state;
• receiving, from the base station, downlink control information (DCI) scrambled by a group-radio network temporary identifier (G-RNTI);
• and
• based on the MBS multicast session configuration information, the multicast channel configuration information, and the DCI, receiving, from the base station, a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) for the MBS multicast service in the RRC inactive state.

A method performed by a base station supporting a multicast broadcast service (MBS) in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

• transmitting, to a user equipment (UE), MBS multicast session configuration information for transmitting an MBS multicast service in a radio resource control (RRC) inactive state and multicast channel configuration information associated with a common frequency resource (CFR) for transmitting the MBS multicast service in the RRC inactive state;
• transmitting, to the UE, downlink control information (DCI) scrambled by a group-radio network temporary identifier (G-RNTI);
• and
• based on the MBS multicast session configuration information, the multicast channel configuration information, and the DCI, transmitting, to the UE in the RRC inactive state, a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) for the MBS multicast service.

A user equipment (UE) supporting a multicast broadcast service (MBS) in a wireless communication system, the UE comprising:

• a transceiver;
• and
• a controller coupled with the transceiver, and configured to:
• receive, from a base station in a radio resource control (RRC) connected state, MBS multicast session configuration information for receiving an MBS multicast service in an RRC inactive state and multicast channel configuration information associated with a common frequency resource (CFR) for receiving the MBS multicast service in the RRC inactive state,
• receive, from the base station, downlink control information (DCI) scrambled by a group-radio network temporary identifier (G-RNTI), and
• based on the MBS multicast session configuration information, the multicast channel configuration information, and the DCI, receive, from the base station, a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) for the MBS multicast service in the RRC inactive state.

A base station supporting a multicast broadcast service (MBS) in a wireless communication system, the base station comprising:

• a transceiver, and
• a controller coupled with the transceiver, and configured to:
• transmit, to a user equipment (UE), MBS multicast session configuration information for transmitting an MBS multicast service in a radio resource control (RRC) inactive state and multicast channel configuration information associated with a common frequency resource (CFR) for transmitting the MBS multicast service in the RRC inactive state,
• transmit, to the UE, downlink control information (DCI) scrambled by a group-radio network temporary identifier (G-RNTI), and
• based on the MBS multicast session configuration information, the multicast channel configuration information, and the DCI, transmit, to the UE in the RRC inactive state, a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) for the MBS multicast service.
