Abstract

A terminal apparatus for adaptive paging reception in wireless communication systems is disclosed. The terminal comprises a transceiver and a controller configured to receive system information from a base station and monitor paging occasions based on condition-based paging occasion determination logic. When a network applies paging-adaptation and provides enhanced paging parameters, the terminal determines a starting monitoring occasion number based on a second parameter related to the first monitoring occasion, enabling condensed paging occasion operation for improved energy efficiency. When paging adaptation is not applied or only baseline parameters are provided, the terminal reverts to baseline paging occasion determination. This dual-mode operation enables seamless coexistence of legacy and enhanced paging schemes, minimizing energy waste in low-load cells while preserving congestion mitigation benefits in high-load scenarios and various network implementations.

Dependent claims

A terminal in a wireless communication system, the terminal comprising:

a transceiver configured to transmit and receive signals;
and
a controller configured to control the transceiver to:
receive, from a base station, system information, wherein the system information comprises at least:
a first parameter for number of paging occasions;
and
a first parameter for paging frame offset;
and
monitor at least one monitoring occasion of a specific set of consecutive monitoring occasions,
wherein:
in case that first specific conditions are fulfilled, a starting monitoring occasion number of the specific set of consecutive monitoring occasions is determined based on a second parameter related to a first monitoring occasion;
in case that second specific conditions are fulfilled, the starting monitoring occasion number of the specific set of consecutive monitoring occasions is determined based on a first parameter related to the first monitoring occasion,
wherein the first specific conditions comprise:
the system information comprising the second parameter related to the first monitoring occasion;
and
paging adaptation being applied, and
wherein the second specific conditions comprise at least the system information comprising the first parameter related to the first monitoring occasion.
