A sidelink-based positioning method, performed by a first terminal device, comprising:
- transmitting a first message, wherein the first message is used for discovering a target terminal device, and the first message comprises first characteristic information required of the target terminal device by the first terminal device.

- receiving a first message, wherein the first message is used for discovering a target terminal device, and the first message comprises first characteristic information required of the target terminal device by a first terminal device.
