Assigning Seamless Mobility Domain (SMD) identifiers (IDs) and signaling the SMD identifiers in reduced neighbor reports may be provided. Assigning SMD IDs includes assigning, by a reporting access point (AP) to a plurality of reported APs, short SMD ID values for SMDs to which the plurality of reported APs belong. The short SMD ID values are smaller in size than full SMD ID values that uniquely identify the SMDs, the short SMD ID values are assigned so the SMDs of any collocated APs of the plurality of reported APs are uniquely identified in a reduced neighbor report (RNR) element, and the short SMD ID values are assigned so the SMDs of any non-collocated APs of the plurality of reported APs are uniquely identified in the RNR element. The reporting AP transmits the RNR element comprising the short SMD ID values assigned to the plurality of reported APs.
