SMART Xn MOBILITY HANDLING IN 5G STANDALONE O-RAN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION NETWORK

A method for managing Xn interface mobility in a wireless communication network, the method comprising:

• determining, using a processor device, a number of Xn interfaces for a source gNB and a number of Xn relationships for cells for the source gNB;
• determining, using the processor device, when an Xn limit is reached based on one or more of the number of Xn interfaces for the source gNodeB (gNB) and the number of Xn relationships for cells for the source gNB;
• generating, using the processor device, a notification when the Xn limit is reached;
• identifying. using the processor device, a set of one or more candidate Xn interfaces of the source gNB based on a predetermined status;
• when at least one of the candidate Xn interfaces is removable, removing, using the processor device, the at least one removable candidate Xn interface;
• and
• performing, using the processor device, a handover of a user equipment (UE) device from the source gNB to a target gNB using one of the Xn interfaces of the source gNB.

A non-transitory, computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by a processor perform a set of functions for managing Xn interface mobility in a wireless communication network, the set of functions comprising:

• determining a number of Xn interfaces for a source gNodeB (gNB) and a number of Xn relationships for cells for the source gNB;
• determining when an Xn limit is reached based on one or more of the number of Xn interfaces for the source gNB and the number of Xn relationships for cells for the source gNB;
• generating a notification when the Xn limit is reached;
• identifying a set of one or more candidate Xn interfaces of the source gNB based on a predetermined status;
• when at least one of the candidate Xn interfaces is removable, removing the at least one removable candidate Xn interface;
• and
• performing a handover of a user equipment (UE) device from the source gNB to a target gNB using one of the Xn interfaces of the source gNB.
