Enhanced redundancy in a network

A method comprising:

• communicating with a core network via a first communication unit comprising one of a distributed communication unit and a centralized communication unit;
• detecting a failure at the first communication unit;
• and
• switching communication to a second communication unit comprising another of the distributed communication unit and the centralized communication unit;
• wherein the distributed communication unit comprises a radio interface unit of distributed unit (RIU-D) or a next generation distributed unit (NGDU), and wherein the centralized communication unit comprises a secure telephone unit (STU).

A non-transitory computer-readable recording medium having recorded thereon instructions executable by an apparatus to cause the apparatus to perform a method comprising:

• communicating with a core network via a first communication unit comprising one of a distributed communication unit and a centralized communication unit;
• detecting a failure at the first communication unit;
• and
• switching communication to a second communication unit comprising another of the distributed communication unit and the centralized communication unit;
• wherein the distributed communication unit comprises a radio interface unit of distributed unit (RIU-D) or a next generation distributed unit (NGDU), and wherein the centralized communication unit comprises a secure telephone unit (STU).
