Abstract

The disclosure provides support for a system and method for large-scale drone deployments, the system including: a Software-Defined Drone Network (SDSN) of drones connected via an integration of a licensed technology and an unlicensed spectrum technology, and a unified management module to manage a multi-layered connectivity, communication reliability and quality of service (QoS) for the drones per a baseline plan of a mission, wherein the SDSN provides the multi-layered connectivity via the integration using a spectrum collection including a licensed spectrum and an unlicensed spectrum. Robust operational endurance is extended through dynamic routing, predictive path optimization using Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Leaning (ML) algorithms, and energy-efficient design. The SDSN integrates both Line-of-Sight (LOS) and Beyond Line-of-Sight (BLOS) communications.
