Abstract
An image capture device with a housing, a drainage microphone, processor, and drainage channel. The housing defining an audio depression. The drainage microphone coupled to the housing at a location of the audio depression and configured to capture audio. The processor coupled with a memory storing instructions that when executed cause the processor to apply a set of tuned beamforming parameters to the captured audio. The drainage channel within the housing to drain moisture from the drainage microphone. The drainage channel defining a channel entrance having a channel entrance width and a channel entrance height.

An image capture device, comprising:
- a housing defining an audio depression;
- a drainage microphone coupled to the housing at a location of the audio depression;
- a cover coupled to the housing to protect the drainage microphone from an environment external to the image capture device;
- and
- a drainage channel defined between the cover and the housing to drain moisture from the drainage microphone, the drainage channel defining a channel volume having a vertical centerline, a channel entrance, and a channel exit,
- wherein the channel entrance is formed perpendicular to the vertical centerline of the channel volume, and
- wherein the channel exit is formed at an angle relative to the vertical centerline of the channel volume, the angle being between 20 degrees and 60 degrees, the angle facilitating drainage of liquid from the channel volume and shifting resonance of the drainage channel outside of a predetermined frequency range.
An image capture device, comprising:
- a housing defining a front surface, a rear surface opposite the front surface, and a side surface orthogonal to the front surface and the rear surface;
- a front microphone coupled to the housing at a location of the front surface;
- a drainage microphone coupled to the housing at a location of an audio depression formed in the side surface, wherein the drainage microphone is positioned closer to the front surface than to the rear surface relative to a vertical centerline of the side surface, such that the drainage microphone is biased toward the front surface, and wherein the drainage microphone and the front microphone are positioned less than 30 degrees from each other relative to a horizontal axis of the housing;
- and
- a processor, coupled with a memory that stores instructions that when executed cause the processor to receive audio captured by the drainage microphone and the front microphone, configured to process the captured audio using a set of beamforming parameters.
A method for processing audio in an image capture device, the method comprising:
- receiving a plurality of captured audio channels from an audio assembly, the plurality of captured audio channels comprising a first audio channel captured by a drainage microphone and a second audio channel captured by a second microphone;
- applying a set of tuned beamforming parameters to the plurality of captured audio channels;
- processing the plurality of captured audio channels using the set of tuned beamforming parameters to generate a first virtual audio channel and a second virtual audio channel;
- combining the first virtual audio channel and the second virtual audio channel into an audio stream configured for stereo audio playback;
- and
- outputting the audio stream.
