Asynchronous readout encoding for event-based vision sensors (and associated systems, devices, and methods) is disclosed herein. In one embodiment, an encoding format for transmitting event data from an event-based vision sensor includes a row address most significant bit (MSB) package including a first prefix code and content bits for encoding MSB row address information, a row address least significant bit (LSB) package including a second prefix code and content bits for encoding LSB row address information, a column address MSB package including a third prefix code and content bits for encoding MSB column address information, and a column address LSB package including a fourth prefix code and content bits for encoding LSB column address information. At least two of the prefix codes can be different from one another and/or have different lengths, and/or can be assigned based on package frequency, with more frequently occurring packages receiving shorter prefix codes.
