Default and inferred values in asps, afps, and meshpatch data units in v-dmc

A method comprising:

• receiving a compressed bitstream;
• identifying one or more flags included in the compressed bitstream each related to a corresponding parameter type;
• and
• determining, based on the one or more flags, parameters for the corresponding parameter type of each of the one or more flags according to an established hierarchy between two or more of an atlas sequence parameter set (ASPS) level, an atlas frame parameter set (AFPS) level, and at least one meshpatch data unit (MDU) level of the compressed bitstream by copying parameter values between one or more of the ASPS level, the AFPS level, and the at least one MDU level and/or assigning default parameter values for the corresponding parameter type.

An apparatus comprising:

• a communication interface;
• and
• a processor operably coupled to the communication interface, the processor configured to:
• set one or more flags in a compressed bitstream each related to a corresponding parameter type;
• establish, based on the one or more flags, a hierarchy between two or more of an atlas sequence parameter set (ASPS) level, an atlas frame parameter set (AFPS) level, and at least one meshpatch data unit (MDU) level of the compressed bitstream by signaling a copying of parameter values for the corresponding parameter type between one or more of the ASPS level, the AFPS level, and the at least one MDU level and/or signaling an assignment of default parameter values for the corresponding parameter type;
• and
• transmit the compressed bitstream using the communication interface.
