Enhanced video coding using region-based adaptive quality tuning

An apparatus comprising:

• machine-readable instructions;
• at least one processor circuit to be programmed based on the machine-readable instructions to determine a plurality of delta quantization parameters corresponding respectively to a plurality of pixel blocks of a frame of image data;
• and
• encoder circuitry to:
• combine respective ones of the delta quantization parameters with a reference quantization parameter to determine a plurality of adjusted quantization parameters corresponding respectively to the plurality of pixel blocks, the adjusted quantization parameters within a configurable range of quantization parameter values;
• and
• encode the pixel blocks based on the adjusted quantization parameters.

A system comprising:

• means for determining a plurality of delta quantization parameters corresponding respectively to a plurality of pixel blocks of a frame of image data;
• and
• means for encoding the pixel blocks, the means for encoding to:
• combine respective ones of the delta quantization parameters with a reference quantization parameter to determine a plurality of adjusted quantization parameters corresponding respectively to the plurality of pixel blocks, the adjusted quantization parameters within a configurable range of quantization parameter values;
• and
• encode the pixel blocks based on the adjusted quantization parameters.
