Abstract
In-loop filters are commonly used to filter reconstructed video paths within a digital video encoder and decoder. Commonly used filters are deblocking filters and adaptive loop filters. Embodiments provide filter classification techniques for determination of such in-loop filters with adaptability to depend on criteria comprising spatial distance from a block edge, features across block edges, selection of samples to be filtered and filter size or shape. In one embodiment, deblocking characteristics are combined with adaptive loop filters in one filtering step.
Claims21
A method, comprising:
- determining at least one in-loop filter for a video block based on a classification;
- filtering a reconstructed version of said video block with said determined at least one in-loop filter;
- signaling said determined at least one in-loop filter;
- and,
- encoding the video block using the filtered reconstructed video block.
An apparatus, comprising
- a memory and
- a processor, configured to perform:
- determining at least one in-loop filter for a video block based on a classification;
- filtering a reconstructed version of said video block with said determined at least one in-loop filter;
- signaling said determined at least one in-loop filter;
- and,
- encoding the video block using the filtered reconstructed video block.
A method, comprising:
- deriving a classification for a video block;
- determining at least one in-loop filter for the video block based on the classification;
- filtering a reconstructed version of said video block with said determined at least one in-loop filter;
- decoding the video block using the filtered reconstructed video block.
