Combined intra and inter prediction mode

A computing system, comprising:

• control circuitry;
• memory;
• and
• one or more sets of instructions stored in the memory and configured for execution by the control circuitry, the one or more sets of instructions comprising instructions for:
• receiving video data comprising a plurality of blocks including a current block;
• determining that the current block is to use a combined intra inter prediction (CIIP) mode;
• identifying an intra prediction for the current block using an intra prediction mode from a set of intra prediction modes;
• identifying a warp-motion-based inter prediction for the current block using an inter prediction mode from a set of inter prediction modes;
• determining whether to use wedge blending or predefined weight blending to combine the intra prediction and the warp-motion-based inter prediction;
• and
• encoding the current block using the intra prediction and the warp-motion-based inter prediction according to the determined blending.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing one or more sets of instructions configured for execution by a computing device having control circuitry and memory, the one or more sets of instructions comprising instructions for:

• determining that a current block of video data is to use a combined intra inter prediction (CIIP) mode;
• identifying an intra prediction for the current block using an intra prediction mode from a set of intra prediction modes;
• identifying a warp-motion-based inter prediction for the current block using an inter prediction mode from a set of inter prediction modes;
• determining whether to use wedge blending or predefined weight blending to combine the intra prediction and the warp-motion-based inter prediction;
• encoding the current block using the intra prediction and the warp-motion-based inter prediction according to the determined blending;
• and
• transmitting a video bitstream that includes encoded information for the current block.
