Abstract
Various sensing technologies may be used together for an advanced healthcare article tracking system to track items within a hospital. Asset tracking may therefore be implemented to provide both humans and robots the ability to track assets as they are stored and moved about within the hospital, with the system also optimizing the scheduling and utilization of operating rooms based on the tracking of the hospital's assets. In one particular instance, an autoclave tag reader may be implemented to sense an autoclave tag and thus track a surgical tool tray to which the tag is attached from the sterile processing department, to the operating room, and back again.

A first apparatus, comprising:
- a housing;
- a wireless communication assembly coupled to the housing, the wireless communication assembly comprising:
- an antenna;
- and
- an integrated circuit (IC) communicatively coupled to the antenna, the IC configured to use the antenna to receive wireless signals in a frequency range of 30-900 kHz, the IC configured to receive, in the frequency range of 30-900 kHz, each of:
- one or more first wireless signals indicating an identifier for a surgical tool tray associated with a second apparatus different from the first apparatus;
- one or more second wireless signals indicating humidity data generated based on input from a humidity sensor on the second apparatus;
- and
- one or more third wireless signals indicating temperature data generated based on input from a temperature sensor on the second apparatus.
A first apparatus, comprising:
- a housing;
- a wireless communication assembly coupled to the housing, the wireless communication assembly comprising:
- an antenna;
- and
- an integrated circuit (IC) communicatively coupled to the antenna, the IC configured to use the antenna to receive wireless signals in a frequency range of 130-132 kHz, the IC configured to receive, in the frequency range of 130-132 kHz, each of:
- one or more first wireless signals indicating an identifier for a healthcare-related article associated with a second apparatus different from the first apparatus;
- and
- one or more second wireless signals indicating environmental data generated based on input from an environmental sensor on the second apparatus.
A method, comprising:
- using a wireless communication assembly to receive, in a frequency range of 130-132 kHz, one or more wireless signals indicating environmental data associated with an apparatus;
- and
- transmitting, to a server, the environmental data and an indication of an identifier for a surgical tool tray associated with the apparatus.
