Method and apparatus for proactivly prohibiting network route hijacking

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium tangibly encoded with computer-executable instructions that when executed by a processor associated with a computing device perform a method comprising:

• obtaining subnet information, the subnet information comprising subnet ownership and operational status information for a subnet;
• generating a set of features for the subnet based on an analysis of the subnet's ownership and operational status information;
• making at least one route hijack prohibition action determination using the feature set;
• and
• causing at least one route hijack prohibition action to be taken in accordance with the determination.

A device comprising:

• a processor, configured to:
• obtain subnet information, the subnet information comprising subnet ownership and operational status information for a subnet;
• generate a set of features for the subnet based on an analysis of the subnet's ownership and operational status information;
• make at least one route hijack prohibition action determination using the feature set;
• and
• cause at least one route hijack prohibition action to be taken in accordance with the determination.
