Abstract

Techniques for validating credentials are disclosed. A system receives a request, submitted by a requestor via a graphical user interface (GUI) of a first device under control of the requestor, to validate one or more credentials of a credential holder. The system transmits, to the first device under control of the requestor, a unique link to present in the GUI of the first device. The system receives, via the unique link from a second device under control of the credential holder, the one or more credentials of the credential holder. Responsive to receiving the one or more credentials of the credential holder, the system determines if the one or more credentials of the credential holder are valid and notifies the requestor of a result of determining if the one or more credentials are valid.

Dependent claims

A method comprising:

receiving, by a credential mediator service, via a unique link from a first device under control of a first individual, a first request to validate a verifiable credential (VC) that associates the first individual with an organization;
wherein the organization is one of a plurality of organizations for which the credential mediator service issues and validates VCs;
and
wherein the first device obtains the unique link from a second device under control of a second individual seeking to determine if the first individual is verifiably associated with the organization;
responsive to receiving the first request, validating the VC at least by:
transmitting, by the credential mediator service to a first endpoint associated with the organization, a second request to determine if the VC is valid;
and
receiving, by the credential mediator service responsive to the second request, a first message indicating if the VC is valid;
and
transmitting, to one or both of the first device and the second device, a second message indicating if the first individual is verifiably associated with the organization;
wherein the method is performed by at least one device including a hardware processor.

One or more non-transitory computer readable media comprising instructions which, when executed by one or more hardware processors, cause performance of operations comprising:

receiving, by a credential mediator service, via a unique link from a first device under control of a first individual, a first request to validate a verifiable credential (VC) that associates the first individual with an organization;
wherein the organization is one of a plurality of organizations for which the credential mediator service issues and validates VCs;
and
wherein the first device obtains the unique link from a second device under control of a second individual seeking to determine if the first individual is verifiably associated with the organization;
responsive to receiving the first request, validating the VC at least by:
transmitting, by the credential mediator service to a first endpoint associated with the organization, a second request to determine if the VC is valid;
and
receiving, by the credential mediator service responsive to the second request, a first message indicating if the VC is valid;
and
transmitting, to one or both of the first device and the second device, a second message indicating if the first individual is verifiably associated with the organization.
