Abstract
A process for validating a user using existing secure infrastructure, such as Automated Teller Machines (ATMs). The process can be modified to incorporate further aspects that verify information about a user (e.g., an identifier of a user, a location of the user) or verifying capabilities of a user (e.g., ability to receive messages via a communication channel, such as a telephone number, email address, or mailing address).
Claims20
A method comprising:
- at one or more secure device servers associated with an automated teller machine network:
- receiving a first code associated with a user from a mobile device of the user;
- determining, based on the first code, that a requesting entity seeks verification of
- a requested item of information associated with the user;
- identifying an account associated with the user authenticated through an automated teller machine of the automated teller machine network;
- determining a verification criterion associated with the requested item of information;
- determining whether information maintained in association with the account of the user satisfies the verification criterion;
- responsive to determining that the information maintained in association with the account satisfies the verification criterion:
- generating a second code comprising a signed attestation indicating satisfaction of the verification criterion, wherein the second code omits the information maintained in association with the account used to determine satisfaction of the verification criterion;
- and
- providing the second code from the one or more secure device servers to the requesting entity.

A method comprising:
- at one or more secure device servers associated with an automated teller machine network:
- receiving a first code associated with a user;
- identifying an account associated with the user authenticated through an automated teller machine of the automated teller machine network;
- generating a pseudonymous identifier by applying a one-way hash function to an identifier associated with the account;
- combining the pseudonymous identifier with the first code;
- generating a second code based on the combination, the second code further including an identifier of the automated teller machine associated with the user;
- digitally signing the second code;
- and
- providing the second code to a requesting entity,
- wherein the pseudonymous identifier remains constant across a plurality of authentication events associated with the account and is usable to:
- (1) distinguish the account from other accounts without revealing an identity of the user;
- and(2) determine whether the account has previously participated in one or more authentication events.
